Construction & Contracting Insurance

Insurance that holds up
when a contract is tested.

Contracting Covers a Huge Range of Businesses, Each with Their Own Risks

Construction and contracting is one of the most diverse sectors in the UK economy and one of the most exposed. Whether you're a sole trader specialising in a single trade or a large commercial developer taking on multi-million-pound projects, the risks you carry are substantial and the consequences of an uninsured loss can be business-ending.

The sector's risks don't just sit with the work itself. Contractual liabilities to clients and principal contractors, obligations to subcontractors, plant and equipment, the works in progress, professional advice given as part of a contract all create exposures that need careful consideration and specific cover.

We understand that no two contractors face the same risks, and we don't treat them as if they do.

Our Approach: Cover that Keeps Pace with Your Projects

The liabilities you accept in your contract documents, the indemnities you give to principal contractors, and the insurance requirements you've agreed to meet all need to be reflected in your programme, not discovered to be gaps at the point of a claim. We review your contractual position as part of the advice process making sure that your cover keeps pace as your projects grow and change — because a programme that was adequate for last year's workload may not be adequate for this year's.

What We Cover

Contractors All Risks

This cover is for the work being undertaken, protecting against damage to the works themselves, materials on site, and everything during the construction period. The scope needs to reflect the type and scale of projects you take on.

Public and Products Liability

Your liability to third parties for injury or property damage arising from your operations. In a contracting environment, where you're regularly working in and around other people's premises and assets, the adequacy of your limit and the scope of your cover are both critical.

Contractors Own Plant and Equipment

Cover for your own plant, tools, and equipment, whether they are on site, in transit, or in storage. Plant is often one of the most significant assets a contractor owns, and it's frequently underinsured.

Hired-In Plant

If you hire plant from a third party, you're typically contractually responsible for loss or damage while it's in your care. This needs to be specifically covered and is separate from your own plant policy.

Professional Indemnity

Increasingly relevant as contractors take on design responsibilities alongside construction work. If you give advice or produce designs that form part of a contract, your liability for errors extends beyond the physical work.

Environmental Liability

Construction activity can cause pollution or contamination, whether through fuel spills, waste disposal, or disturbance of ground conditions. Regulatory and third-party liability in this area needs specific consideration.

Employers Liability

A legal requirement, and in construction the physical risk to your workforce is among the highest of any sector. The adequacy of your cover and your approach to health and safety can affect how claims are handled and how your premiums are rated.

Cyber Insurance

Construction businesses increasingly rely on connected systems for project management, building information modelling, and contract administration. A cyber incident can disrupt project delivery and trigger liability to clients.

Management Liability, Commercial Crime
